The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the everyday lives of millions of Canadians drastically. The impact of COVID-19 is far more dramatic than the previous SARS and H1N1 outbreaks. When our lives will change back to pre-COVID-19 normal is unknown. For now, in order to prevent us getting COVID-19, we need to follow some important steps to keep each other and ourselves safe.

 

Here are some simple steps to remain in good health during this unprecedented time:

 

1) Practice social distancing! Stay home as much as possible and maybe learn a new skill or do some spring-cleaning to occupy yourself during this uncertain time.

 

2) Wear masks that will prevent your droplets from getting to other people. Many people have been wearing cloth masks, which is better than having no face covering at all. However, ASTM rated masks are better than non-ASTM rated procedure masks. We should also save N95 mask for health care professionals, as they need it more than we do.

 

3) Wash your hands thoroughly (approximately 20 seconds) and frequently with soap.

 

4) Use alcohol or disinfection wipes to clean things that you often touch and surfaces around your house and use hand sanitizer for your hands.

 

5) Take Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Zinc lozenges to increase immunity. Zinc lozenges have been proven to shorten the duration of upper respiratory tract infections.
